Kazuyoshi Miura's media frenzy

A glimpse into the Japanese media frenzy over a scandalous murder case dating back to the 1980s was revealed Monday at the Torrance Courthouse.

About 30 members of mostly Japanese media outlets toured the courthouse in anticipation of a hearing next month in the case against businessman Kazuyoshi Miura.

Miura, a Toyko clothing importer, is charged with killing his wife in 1981 during a visit to Los Angeles. Police believe his motive was a $650,000 insurance policy.

Kazumi Miura, 28, was shot on a busy street downtown. Her husband told police that robbers shot her in the head and hit him in the leg, and blamed America's violent culture.

Under a plea bargain, Holly Ashcraft will not spend any additional time in custody, according to her attorney, Mark Geragos. Instead, prosecutors agreed to two years' time served and five years' probation.
